The demographics of Collier County schools are changing. The Collier County School Board reported for the 2015-2016 school year, that of the 46,547 students (K-12)
- 68% are low income (K-5). 63% (K-12).
- 48% come from homes where English is not the primary language — the fourth highest percentage among Florida districts.
And changes in racial demarcations follow the national trends, though somewhat more acutely
- 12% African American
- 49% Hispanic
- 35% Caucasian
- 4% Other
While some indicators may show economic growth in the United States, a recent Pew Research report shows that the median income of Americans has declined an average of 8.3% between 2007 and 2011. In Collier County, the unemployment rate averages 8-9% as reported by the US Dept. of Labor.
