Angels Undercover was founded by Jackie Bennett in December, 2010, when she discovered that a shocking two-thirds of the elementary school children in Collier County, Florida were on free and reduced lunches with 14% living at or below the poverty level. She was appalled to learn that the need was so great that many economically needy children arrived at school without adequate clothing.
She knew she could do something and so, with a small group of friends, started by purchasing underwear and socks for the needy students at three Collier County elementary schools: Golden Gate, Mike Davis and Parkside. By working closely with school principals and guidance counselors, Angels Undercover learned that many of the children also lacked basic school uniforms (polo shirts and shorts), and so those clothing items were added to the shopping list. Today Angels Undercover supplies 22 Collier County elementary schools with clothing. Angels Undercover started as a grant fund to the Education Foundation of Collier County. Formerly a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, today Angels Undercover is a specific fund at the Community Foundation of Collier County. Our mission is to promote education by providing uniform shorts and shirts to those who would otherwise come to school inadequately dressed so that they arrive at school ready to learn.
